Butakovka Gorge

Butakovka Gorge is located in the mountains of the Zailiysky Alatau, within the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Park, just 10–15 kilometers from Almaty. The gorge stretches about 14 kilometers in length, and its altitude ranges from 1,700 to 2,900 meters above sea level. The Butakovka River flows along the bottom of the gorge — it is a right tributary of the Malaya Almatinka River. Due to its close proximity to the city, Butakovka Gorge has become one of the most popular recreation spots for Almaty residents.
