The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen is located in the center of Almaty and covers an area of approximately 18 hectares. It was founded in the 1870s as the City Garden on the site of a former Cossack cemetery. Over the years, the park has changed its name several times: it was known as Pushkin Garden, the Park of Fallen Fighters for Freedom, and the Park of the Federation of Soviet Republics. Since 1942, it has borne its current name.
