Kumbel Peak

High above Almaty, standing like a guardian of the city, rises Kumbel Peak. Its Kazakh name, "Kumbel," means "sandy ridge." Indeed, from a distance, the massive scree slopes of fine stone resemble frozen waves of sand. At an altitude of about 3,200 meters, this peak is visible from almost anywhere in the city and has long been one of the most recognizable landmarks of the Trans-Ili Alatau.
