The A. Kasteev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the largest art museum in the country and one of the leading centers of fine arts in Central Asia. Its history began in 1935 with the establishment of the Kazakh State Art Gallery. In 1976, the museum moved into a specially designed building in the Koktem-3 district and was renamed the State Museum of Arts. In 1984, it was named after the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, Abylkhan Kasteev, the founder of the national school of painting. In January 2025, by Presidential Decree, the museum was granted the honorary status of “National.”
