The Eternal Flame was lit in Almaty on May 8, 1975, as part of the Memorial of Glory created for the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Located at the center of the memorial ensemble, the flame serves as its main symbol. The complex includes several sculptural compositions dedicated to remembrance and historical memory.
