The Museum of the History of Almaty was established in the early twenty-first century and is dedicated to the long history of Kazakhstan’s largest city. In 2016, it moved into the restored buildings of the former Vernensky Orphanage, an architectural monument dating to the late nineteenth century. The museum houses more than forty thousand exhibits covering over two millennia of regional history.
