The Church of Saint Philaret of Moscow was established in 1996 on the grounds of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary in the Dorozhnik district. It occupies a former kindergarten building transferred to the diocese, and on August 21, 1996, it was consecrated in honor of Saint Philaret, Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, one of the most influential Orthodox theologians of the nineteenth century.
