The Abai Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre is the main musical stage of Kazakhstan and one of the true symbols of Almaty’s cultural life. The theater traces its history back to 1933, when a music studio was established in Alma-Ata. On January 13, 1934, the premiere of the musical comedy “Aiman-Sholpan” based on the libretto by Mukhtar Auezov took place, marking the birth of professional Kazakh musical theater.
